5 Mistakes Every Jobseeker should avoid on their CV!

A well-curated CV is
an important part of the job huntingprocess. It’s the first step towards
securing an interview. A recruiter doesn’t spend much time reading a resume,
and in today’s tech-driven world most CVs are weeded out through AI. So you
must put some thought into your CV before submitting it. Here are five mistakes
that you should avoid in your CV:

1. Irrelevant
information

Adding personal
information that is not relevant to the job should be avoided. Your social
life, religious beliefs etc. are unnecessary and should not be mentioned. Your
CV is not an essay, so do not write long paragraphs with flowery language.
Stick to the facts and avoid mentioning any controversial topic.

2. Poor grammar

A CV riddled with
typos and incorrect grammar leaves a bad impression and can cost you an
interview. Recruiters are looking for detail-oriented candidates. You don’t
need to be a writing expert, just proofread your CV before submitting it or ask
someone else to read it and catch any errors.

3. False information

Under no circumstances
should you lie in your resume. You can exaggerate things a bit, but fake
employment details or any other false personal information can be verified
online and will lead to immediate rejection.

4. Unprofessional
email addresses

Remember those
“cool” email ids we used to make back in school? Well, using
“krazyboii99@gmail.com” in your CV is a sure-shot way to get
rejected. Recruiters look for professionalism, so do not use an email address
that will look tacky on a business card.

5. Photograph

Adding a headshot is a
strict no-no unless you are sending your resume to a modelling agency and the
like. Recruiters usually reject any resume that has the candidate’s photo on it
to avoid being accused of discrimination. It may also come off as vain or
egocentric.
